The project was born from an impression of a parent and musician (Nadège). At the school gate, parents chat in small groups. Each of these groups speaks a different language. With no apparent mixing. Some parents have been there for a short time, others for a long time. Some also speak French, others do not. The children all speak French in addition to their mother tongue. But when they enter the school, you might think they forget everything about their culture of origin, barely able to say hello in a language other than the school’s language. For the kindergarten teacher, the stakes are high. Communication remains difficult with parents, who sometimes feel rejected by an institution they do not understand.

How can I help create connections as a musician?

The idea takes shape: Compagnie des Airs Sauvages will respond to the DRAC’s Jumelages – résidences d’artistes call for projects with “Nursery Rhymes for Living Together.” Parents are then invited into the school to sing nursery rhymes to their children in their mother tongue. The musician will seize this richness and work in the classrooms to pass on these songs in turn, creating a common language base for everyone.
